Cleveland Guardians’ manager Stephen Vogt was named American League Manager of the Year.

This election marks the third time in the American League and the 10th time overall that the award went to someone who was in his first season as a major league manager. The other first-year AL winners were the Rangers’ Jeff Banister (2015) and the Twins’ Rocco Baldelli (2019). There have been seven first-year winners in the National League: the Astros’ Hal Lanier (1986), the Giants’ Dusty Baker (1993), the Marlins’ Joe Girardi (2006), the Nationals’ Matt Williams (2014), the Dodgers’ Dave Roberts (2016), the Diamondbacks’ Torey Lovullo (2017) and the Marlins’ Skip Schumaker (2023).

It marks the fifth time a Cleveland manager has been honored. Vogt joins three-time winner Terry Francona (2013, 2016, 2022) and Eric Wedge (2007).

Vogt was the only manager named on every ballot.

Ballots were cast before the start of the postseason. They are tabulated on a system that rewards five points for first place, three points for second place and one point for third place.
